ACCESS TO 190,000+ MEALS TO CHILDREN ACROSS AMERICA
*Your donations help support programs that feed kids; No Kid Hungry does not provide individual meals. Learn more at NoKidHungry.org/OneDollar.
No Kid Hungry is a leading force in the United States dedicated to ending childhood hunger. With a comprehensive approach, they work tirelessly to ensure every child has access to nutritious food by implementing effective programs, advocating for policy changes, and fostering community partnerships. Their impact is felt nationwide as they strive to create a future where all kids get three meals a day.
Meet Yukimi Orie Urami, an honored Hunger Hero and the heartbeat of the D15 team and the Assistant Cook at PS 130. Her journey from childhood hunger to a passionate advocate is as inspiring as the dishes she crafts.
Growing up in the 1960s, Orie knew how it felt to experience hunger. She discovered the transformative power of free meals for students in NYC, and reflecting on her own childhood, she envisions how such programs could have alleviated the struggles of her single-parent family. Today, she brings that empathy to PS 130's kitchen, turning student feedback into action. From perfecting bean burritos to fetching blueberry granola on a whim, Orie's dedication echoes her commitment to ending childhood hunger.
Her story is a testament to resilience and the power of one person to make a difference. Orie is not just cooking meals; she's cooking up change and warmth for every child she serves. Join us as we celebrate Orie's journey and work together to end childhood hunger, one heartfelt act at a time. She not only brings warmth to PS 130's kitchen but also a deep understanding of the impact of hunger.
OUR INTERNATIONAL INITIATIVE
ACCESS TO 287K+ MEALS TO FAMILIES IN HAITI
FULLY FUNDING ALL FOOD NEEDS
Second Mile Haiti is a transformative organization committed to empowering communities in Haiti. They focus on providing vital resources, education, and sustainable solutions to break the cycle of poverty, ensuring a brighter future for the people of Haiti.
Meet Malaika and her mom, Linda, who embarked on a remarkable journey of resilience and transformation with Second Mile Haiti. Arriving when Malaika was just 14 months old and facing severe malnutrition, Linda's initial sadness turned into a testament of courage and love.
Despite challenges, Linda became an integral part of their community, earning income through the business program. Malaika, once frail and unable to walk, now thrives as a joyful, healthy toddler. As Linda reflects, "I feel very happy now. There were a lot of things I didn’t know how to do that I learned to do during my time here. I have a new approach to life."
Their story is a poignant example of the impact that can be created together, fostering hope, health, and happiness in the face of adversity. Second Mile Haiti celebrates Malaika's incredible progress and Linda's newfound joy, underscoring the profound change that can be achieved through collective support and compassion.
At Second Mile Haiti, their commitment extends beyond children's recovery; they strive to uplift their caretakers during their most challenging moments. Through ongoing support, they aim to equip families with the resources needed for a sustainable, brighter future, ensuring a holistic transformation for both children and their families.
OUR PARENT COMPANY
In late 2022, we happily embraced a new chapter and joined the GOOD Worldwide Family– a crew on a mission to help people and organizations be a force for good since 2006. We're diving into fresh ways to tackle hunger head-on.
In October, we kicked off our first full team retreat in Los Angeles. We delved deep into the essence of creating a hunger-fighting movement and contemplated the profound impact of getting rid of “school lunch debt” for all children, and ensuring our neighbors didn’t go to sleep hungry. Volunteering with the Hollywood Food Coalition opened our eyes to a community committed to ending hunger in their neighborhood, and we were inspired to seek out local organizations in our own neighborhoods - more to come on this in 2024!
A standout moment? Our amazing colleague made sure no leftover retreat goodies went to waste. Instead, she delivered them to a Los Angeles Community Fridges. Why we loved this? It builds community ties, slashes food waste, and fights hunger. Check out Freedge to find a similar community fridge near you—we're big fans!In 2023, we dared to dream of a movement that will bring an end to hunger. Come 2024, the This Saves Lives and GOOD Worldwide Family is thrilled to turn that dream into reality. Thank you for joining us!
Looking Ahead: Excitement for 2024
